  1.  Show the transparency of a billion years ago.
  2. Place today’s transparency on top and move to various locations showing the centers of expansion at any point you place it.

 

Expanding Universe Balloon

  1.  Air/Vacuum pump
  2. Hose with copper tubing and stopper
  3. Large balloon (red)
  4. color code dots (green)
  1.  Attach the house to the air side of the pump.
  2. Pull the neck of the balloon over the rubber stopper and hold it on as you turn on the air pump.
  3. When the balloon is blown up to about 18-20 inch diameter, randomly stick green dots about an inch apart on one area of the balloon.
  4. Begin to let the air out of the balloon and see that only the distance between the dots (galaxies) is changing.

 

Earth, Moon, and Sun Demo

  2. Tennis ball (moon)
  3. Flash light (sun)
  1. Set up as shown.
  2. Position the ‘moon’ as shown to show a solar eclipse (partial and total).
  3. Position the earth between the moon and the sun to show a lunar eclipse.
  4. Position the ‘sun’ and ‘moon’ to show the phases of the moon as seen by the observer on earth.
